We are delighted to present what can only be described as a masterpiece of English cabinetmaking — a 9ft / 274 cm in diameter Grand Regency-style Sunburst Mahogany Circular Dining Table, of unparalleled presence and historical importance.
In over three decades within the high-end furniture trade, we have encountered countless exceptional pieces — but never one so unique, so evocative, and so steeped in provenance as this remarkable table.
This monumental circular table, handcrafted from the finest flame mahogany, was bespoke-made for the London headquarters of a prestigious English bank — Northern Rock Bank.
It was upon this very table that one of the most consequential financial decisions in modern history was taken — during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, when then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, and Chancellor Alistair Darling held a teleconference with world leaders to stabilise global markets and save the international banking system.
Thus, this is not merely a table — it is a witness to history, a symbol of resilience and leadership, and arguably one of the most historically significant boardroom tables ever created.
Craftsmanship Beyond Compare
Bespoke-made by master English cabinetmakers, this grand table showcases a magnificent sunburst mahogany top, elegantly radiating from its centre, resting upon a stately turned pedestal base with solid brass castors.
Each element — from its seamless joinery to the lustrous grain of its mahogany — reflects the finest traditions of Regency craftsmanship. Originally valued at nearly £40,000, the table was constructed using the highest-grade materials and meticulous hand techniques, now lovingly preserved and enhanced by our own expert artisans.
It’s just been fully re-finished by hand in our Suffolk atelier, it will be French polished in a rich, natural warm mahogany tone to reveal its deep grain movement, resulting in that mirror-like lustre achievable only through traditional hand French polishing — a process that remains unsurpassed worldwide.
The tabletop divides into two halves for ease of transport, ensuring both practicality and prestige in equal measure.
