From the photographs, the table displays an extraordinary oval-ended rectangular top, framed in rich flame mahogany with a striking Burr Ash central panel and crossbanded border.
The contrast between the deep, flowing mahogany grain and the lighter Burr Ash inlay creates dramatic visual movement across the entire surface — enhanced by the mirror-like clarity of its hand French polished finish.
The table rests on two substantial Regency pedestal bases, each raised on elegant down-swept legs terminating in classic brass castors. The pedestals provide both architectural balance and exceptional stability when fully extended.
Supplied with four extension leaves, the table transforms from an intimate setting to a grand entertaining scale with ease.
The Beauty of Flame (Crotch-Cut) Mahogany
Flame or crotch-cut mahogany is harvested from the rare section where a major limb meets the trunk of the tree. This natural formation produces the dramatic feathered or flame-like figuring visible across the top.
Only a small percentage of any tree yields this cut, making it one of the most expensive and desirable selections in fine cabinet making.
When professionally French polished, the timber reveals extraordinary depth — tones of amber, honey and rich golden brown that shift beautifully under light.
No two examples are ever identical.
Burr Ash Detailing
The lighter Burr Ash oval centre panel and border introduce refined contrast and highlight the craftsmanship of the piece.
Burr timber is prized for its swirling, cloud-like grain pattern formed by natural growth anomalies in the tree. Its inclusion elevates the table into true designer territory.
