What Is a Jupe Table?

The Jupe expanding dining table was invented in 1835 by English cabinet maker Theodore Alexander Robert Jupe. His revolutionary patent described a circular table constructed so that its sections diverge from a central point, allowing radial leaves to be inserted — creating a seamless expansion.

This table is crafted from exquisite Burr Walnut, incorporating multiple burr veneers — the rare swirling grain found at the base and growth formations of the tree.

The top features:

  • Deep lustrous French polished finish

Burr wood is among the most expensive and visually dramatic cuts of timber available. The natural figuring is enhanced through meticulous hand finishing.

French Polished to Perfection

This table has been fully professionally French polished by our specialist team — with polishing works alone valued at well in excess of £1,500.

French polishing remains the most prestigious finish available for fine furniture and table tops. Modern table-top French polish systems now offer:
